Tara and I sat outside under the deck. She was telling me that a young girl was communicating with her. “I can’t understand her. She’s not talking, she mumbles” What Tara told me next was disturbing. According to Tara, the girl’s tongue was cut out, so she couldn’t really talk, and I just asked Tara to ask he what her name is.
“Can you spell it for me?” Tara asked. “It’s an ‘R’ name, like Reena, or Reanna, however you want to pronounce it. Just a minute, maybe it’s Rhiannon. Is it Rhiannon, honey? Yes, it’s Rhiannon. She’s shaking her head ‘yes.’”
“How old is she?” I wanted to know. After a moment Tara held up 8 fingers.
“What about the boy? What’s his name? Can she tell us what his name is?”
Tara looked straight ahead again. “Matthew. She’s spelling Matthew.”
“Matthew?” I wondered. I thought his name was “Daniel.” At least that’s what I caught on the evp I recorded a couple of weeks ago. ”Who’s Matthew?” Is it possible that I heard the name ”Matthew,” on the recording but misunderstood? No, I didn’t think that was the case. Matthew may be a different ghost altogether. Tara may also be making this up.
This is why many ghost hunters won’t work with psychics during an investigation. They say it’s hard or impossible to verify what the evidence psychics provide. So they rely on technology to do something they were never designed to do – detect ghosts. Go figure.
I really didn’t think Tara was making anything up. I wouldn’t have asked her to help us out if I did.
We walked to the yard on the south side of my house. Tara said it felt like a graveyard was there. She also said that she heard weeping in that area. “That’s exactly what Tamela said,” I thought to myself. We walked to the north side of the house.
“The little girl just came out when she saw us walking here,” Tara said. “She likes this part of the yard.” We talked a some more about the girl Tara was telling me that Rhiannon was there, as well as Matthew. “Rhiannon wasn’t a part of this area at first, told me, she found her way here, and now she’s protecting the boy from the dark man. He came down into the basement once and scared them. Now every time they hear him they hide.
She’s telling me she’s become attached to one of you. She’s attached to Cheryl. She really likes her.” And all this time I thought it was an male who was attached to Cheryl. Could they both be attached to her? It was possible. After all, Cheryl has this great energy that kids are attracted to.
“Do you want to go back inside? We can go back up the deck stairs,” I suggested.
“Okay, but let’s go back in through th basement. I want to see if Matthew drew any thing else on the mirror,” Tara said as she got up to go back in. It sounded like a good idea to me!
We walked into the basement and looked at the miiror. Sure enough, there was an addition to the drawing. This time it was to the figure to the left. We were so excited we went to the stairs and called Cheryl and Dave to come down to take a look at the images. They came down with Lexi in tow.
As we were showing them the shoe print, I noticed that there was yet another line. This line looked like an ”eye,” which would have made the new image in the dust made since Tara and I were outside a face. I pointed it out, and Cheryl immediately saw it - the image looked like a woman sitting in a rocking chair, with her hands folded in front of her. With the latest line we could see what looked like a bandana tied on her head with the knot in front, and an exaggerated open mouth and nose.
“None of that was there a week ago,” Cheryl said. “I look at that mirror every time I come through here with Prince.”
After looking at the mirror, we went upstairs and had the lunch Cheryl prepared. When we finished eating I asked Tara to fill Cheryl and Dave in on what she told me. Then Cheryl and I told them our own experiences.
Dave and I did a walk through but he really didn’t add anything to what I had already heard from Debbie, Tamela, and Tara. He does have a remarkable ability to detect temperature changes though. Overall, we had a great time with them, and Cheryl got some “kiddo time” in playing with Lexi. We were sorry to see them go, and Cheryl kept saying how much she enjoyed their company.
A couple of hours later Tara called to tell us that she and Lexi were playing when Lexi said she didn’t like the “dark man” in our home. “What dark man?” Tara asked her.
“The one near their bedroom.”
“What’s his name? Did he tell you his name?”
“His name is Micah,” Lexi said.
“I thought you guys ought to know,” Tara told me.
I thanked her for her call, and wrote down the name Lexi gave. “Seems as though the talent runs in the family,” I told Cheryl as I explained why Tara called.

After I finished writing the last post I left the Teton room and started walking to the bedroom. Someone was following me. My first thought was that it was Daniel. I heard a voice in my head, “Mister! Hey mister! I’m sorry!”
“You and I are going to talk about this tomorrow,” I said out loud. I felt the presence follow me all the way into the bedroom. Cheryl was in bed, rubbing Prince, trying to comfort him.
“What’s going on?” she asked.
“I’ll tell you in a minute,” I told her. I started to brush my teeth, and while I was doing so, the more I thought about it, the angrier I became. When I was done I said to Cheryl, “I’ll be back in a bit.” I strode out to the family room and grabbed the digital recorder I had there, and put it on record. I wanted to talk to the spirit who did that to Prince, and I was hoping to get responses on my recorder and not in my head.
The following dialogue is directly from the recording -
“Okay, I’m addressing the spirit who is with me right now and made Prince stay. Daniel, is that you?” I paused to allow the spirit time to answer on the recorder. “Are you the one who made Prince stay?”
I realized it might not have been Daniel after all, but the male presence I have sensed, and Cheryl has seen and felt. If it was, I wanted his name too. “Tell me what your name is.” The energy around me grew stronger. “Do you have anything to say?”
Suddenly I got the distinct feeling Daniel was responsible for what happened. I remembered Prince wasn’t barking or growling when all of this was going on, but he diid look scared. I decided to soften my voice, after all, Prince is a toy poodle, all of about 7 pounds. He looks and acts like a puppy. If it is Daniel, a puppy would be fun to play with.
“If you mess with Cheryl, you mess with Albert or you mess with Prince, you’re going to upset me. Do you understand?” I wanted to start the sentence by saying, “Son,” but decided against it in case it wasn’t Daniel after all. “That’s outside the boundaries, do you understand?”
Suddenly I heard a loud bang, coming from the area of the pantry. Since I was hoping to record an evp as a response, I wasn’t expecting this! I’ll admit, it startled me. When I spoke again, my voice broke, in part because I was startled, in part because I wanted to laugh. “Okay, I’m assu… I’m assuming that means that you understand.”
I looked over and saw that the pantry door was opened. Again, I was startled. We never leave the pantry door open. I walked over and closed it.
“Where was I?” I wondered to myself. Oh yeah, I was setting up boundaries, again. “Are we clear?” The energy intensified. It seemed angry. I started to become a little nervous, but I wasn’t to tell that to whomever it was I was talking to!
“I’m not afraid of you. And Daniel if this is you and you’re just playing, you have to understand… we have to set up some rules about that okay?” As soon as I said that I regretted it. What kind of rules do I set with a ghost who wants to play with our dog?
There was another knock, this time much softer coming from the same area. I took it Daniel agreed. I still wasn’t sure what rules I was thinking of setting. I decided that I’d think about it later. “Okay, thank you Daniel.” I turned off the recorder and went to the bedroom.
I told Cheryl what happened earlier when I tried to take Prince out. I then told her about the knocks I heard in response to me putting my foot down just now.
“I heard them,” she said. “Also, when you began talking I heard footsteps come down the hall, walk in here, and then turn around and walk back down the hall. They were light.”
“Must have been Daniel,” I said.
“That’s what I thought,” she said, nodding her head.
We talked a little more. It became even more obvious to me that Cheryl is trusting that I know what I’m doing. I was, and am, grateful for that trust; I still don’t know what I’m going to do about Daniel just yet. Sooner or later, I’ll cross him over. I want outside verification that I’m correct about what I believe is going on right now, before I do. I can’t help it, it’s the investigator in me.

I debated yesterday on whether or not I should tell Cheryl about what I heard after doing the EVP recordings. I don’t know why because when I did tell her she took the news with her usual levelheadedness. She went so far as to remind that the night I was in the dunny “talking to myself” I was saying goodnight to “Daniel.” She asked me that night how I came up with that name, and I told her I asked who the boy was and I heard the name “Daniel.”
Now I have it on digital.
Last night more than once she heard things I didn’t hear. At one point, she heard something, and pointed out that Albert, our cat, heard it as well. I looked and Albert did seem to be looking at something in the same direction that Cheryl said she heard the noise coming from.
By that time, I did place the digital recorder down in the basement, and put it on “voice activated.” Of course, all of the sounds she heard were upstairs.
I wondered why she constantly hears things I don’t, I hear things she doesn’t, and sometimes we hear things at the same time. I freely admit that my hearing isn’t what it should be. I chalk it up to a misspent youth. Still, as I mentioned I’ve heard and experienced things she hasn’t, even though we were next to each other.
Then I remembered that back in the day when I was actively doing investigations it wasn’t unusual for two people to be recording in the same area at the same time and one person will record evps that the other person doesn’t. I especially remember when a woman named Christy and I were investigating tunnels under a hospital and I took a picture of her with her camera. We both had our recorders on at the time, and on my recorder I heard, “Nice picture!”
At the same time, the evp on her recorder said, “You’re going to want to keep that one!”
That’s just one example of many instances this happened. I wondered if the same thing was happening to Cheryl and me.
I just listened to the recording that was made overnight, and there was a lot of sounds on it, but I think that most of them were either Cheryl or me. There were other sounds, but I can’t rule out the idea that Cheryl and I were the cause of them. Tonight, I’ll wait until Prince has been outside going potty, and he and Cheryl are in bed, and I’m on my way before I put the recorder down there again.
I’m also going to need to do a couple of things like open and close the sliding glass door so I’ll know what that sounds like on the recorder. Cheryl and I usually let Prince out to go potty through the basement sliding glass door.
I tried to sit down to do an automatic writing session hoping that one of the spirits will try to make themselves known that way, but I’m afraid when it comes to automatic writing, I’m a closed circuit. At least for now, but I will keep on trying. I may even go out and buy a “psychic circle” to see if that works.
Other than that, it’s been pretty quiet, for the most part. Thank God for that!
“Call me Daniel.” What I caught during my EVP experiment. September 23, 2008

I decided I wanted to know a little about what was going on and why, so going back to my days as an investigator, I decided to do an evp experiment. Though I have a few digital recorders I chose to use my Olympus since it’s the same one I caught my first evps on several years ago at the Whaley House in San Diego, Ca.
I recorded for about 8 minutes walking around the house asking questions, especially when I got the chill that told me that a spirit is near me. I started out at the top of the stairwell leading to the basement, and walked down the hall to our bedroom. I felt the spirit of the child walking with me, so I asked him what his name was.
After walking around the bathroom and bedroom (it just occurred to me I didn’t go into the walk in closet and I don’t know why) I walked back down the hall towards the stairs. It was at that point my little tag along stopped following me.
As soon as I walked in the basement I ran into another spirit. This one was older, and male. I walked towards the sliding glass door, and then towards an antique chair. I always feel a female presence when I’m in a certain area of the basement, the area by the chair. Talking to air, I asked what her name was.
I walked back up the stairs with a toaster I had down in the basement which I put in the kitchen. I walked to Cheryl’s cards asking whoever made the song play identify him or herself. Then I walked into the dining room/living room area. I stood near an antique chair which is ornately carved with faces and snakes and supposedly dates back to the Civil War, though I haven’t been able to document that as of yet.
From there I walked into the Teton room, through the bathroom, and decided that since I covered pretty much all of the house, I would quit.
I listened to the recording and I seem to have caught a few evps. When I was in the master bath and I asked the boy what his name was, I heard, “Call me Daniel.” It was faint, but after listening to it several times, that’s why I decided I was hearing.
Down in the basement, I caught what was the clearest evp still, still I wasn’t sure what I was hearing. It sounded like, “pay dirt.” It makes sense since our house is close to abandoned mines.
When I walked by the chair in the basement, and I asked what the name was of the woman I was sensing I heard, “Rachel.” The odd thing was that it sounded like a man. A few moments later I heard, possibly the same man saying, “Don’t say nothing. Don’t tell him anything.”
After that while I walked back up the stairs carrying the toaster I had down there, when I was almost to the top of the stairs, I heard “Daniel” ask, “What’s that?”
The next evp I caught was when I was standing by Cheryl’s birthday cards asking if my hunch that one of our guests has a crush on Cheryl is correct. I heard, “I could be dead!”
Finally, when I was standing by the chair in the living room, I heard a voice on the digital saying, “I can’t stand that chair.”
So I reached out, and apparently a couple of them are reaching out to me. Tonight I plan on putting the recorder on voice activated, and leaving it in the basement overnight. I’m anxious to what, if anything, I get.
When I do have a psychic over, I’m hoping that he or she will be able to verify some of the names I caught.
