I had just published and edited the last post when I saw a flash of light to my left, between the plant and the door (I’m in the Teton room). Just as I was looking trying to determine what I just saw I heard Cheryl say, “Did you hear that?”

“No,” I said, “what did you hear?”

“A groan. It came from the basement. It was the same sound I heard when I was in the bedroom and the hall. I heard it clearly now. It wasn’t a mumbling sound like I thought. It was a moaning sound.”

It must have been loud if Cheryl thought I heard it in here.

Cheryl also said she heard a coyote outside. Because of that she said that when we take Prince out, we need to go out with him. I’m glad she said, “we.” At this point, I’m not looking forward to going down into that basement alone! LOL

After writing the above, I joking mentioned to Cheryl that I’m afraid to go down into the basement alone, any more. “You are?” she asked surprised.

“No, I was just kidding.”

“Oh good,” she said, obviously relieved. “I was going to say, if you’re afraid, we’re moving.”

Results of basement recordings, and automatic writing experiment September 24, 2008

I debated yesterday on whether or not I should tell Cheryl about what I heard after doing the EVP recordings. I don’t know why because when I did tell her she took the news with her usual levelheadedness. She went so far as to remind that the night I was in the dunny “talking to myself” I was saying goodnight to “Daniel.” She asked me that night how I came up with that name, and I told her I asked who the boy was and I heard the name “Daniel.”

Now I have it on digital.

Last night more than once she heard things I didn’t hear. At one point, she heard something, and pointed out that Albert, our cat, heard it as well. I looked and Albert did seem to be looking at something in the same direction that Cheryl said she heard the noise coming from.

By that time, I did place the digital recorder down in the basement, and put it on “voice activated.” Of course, all of the sounds she heard were upstairs.

I wondered why she constantly hears things I don’t, I hear things she doesn’t, and sometimes we hear things at the same time. I freely admit that my hearing isn’t what it should be. I chalk it up to a misspent youth. Still, as I mentioned I’ve heard and experienced things she hasn’t, even though we were next to each other.

Then I remembered that back in the day when I was actively doing investigations it wasn’t unusual for two people to be recording in the same area at the same time and one person will record evps that the other person doesn’t. I especially remember when a woman named Christy and I were investigating tunnels under a hospital and I took a picture of her with her camera. We both had our recorders on at the time, and on my recorder I heard, “Nice picture!”

At the same time, the evp on her recorder said, “You’re going to want to keep that one!”

That’s just one example of many instances this happened. I wondered if the same thing was happening to Cheryl and me.

I just listened to the recording that was made overnight, and there was a lot of sounds on it, but I think that most of them were either Cheryl or me. There were other sounds, but I can’t rule out the idea that Cheryl and I were the cause of them. Tonight, I’ll wait until Prince has been outside going potty, and he and Cheryl are in bed, and I’m on my way before I put the recorder down there again.

I’m also going to need to do a couple of things like open and close the sliding glass door so I’ll know what that sounds like on the recorder. Cheryl and I usually let Prince out to go potty through the basement sliding glass door.

I tried to sit down to do an automatic writing session hoping that one of the spirits will try to make themselves known that way, but I’m afraid when it comes to automatic writing, I’m a closed circuit. At least for now, but I will keep on trying. I may even go out and buy a “psychic circle” to see if that works.

Other than that, it’s been pretty quiet, for the most part. Thank God for that!

The exercise ball September 20, 2008

Cheryl and I were getting ready to eat breakfast this morning and I noticed a couple of flies flying around the house. I hate killing anything, even flies. I believe that’s what God created spiders, and praying mantis’ for, but still, we were getting ready to eat breakfast, and I didn’t want them buzzing our food.

One of the flies was on a part of our ceiling that’s way too high for me to reach so I grabbed Cheryl’s exercise ball and threw it at the fly to get it to move. It didn’t even budge. I tried it again. Still didn’t move. I threw it a third time, and got it.

The ball came down and bounced down the stairwell, ending up in front of the basement. So Cheryl wouldn’t get wigged out about seeing it down there, I mentioned to her what just happened. Didn’t help.

After breakfast she was walking towards the laundry room and let out a little scream. She then started laughing and told me that she saw the ball down at the bottom of the stairs out of the corner of her eye and it startled her seeing it down there.

A few minutes later I went down the stairs and brought it back up. “Honey!” I shouted coming up the stairs. “I’m bringing the ball back up the stairs!” I could hear her laughing in the laundry room. “I – don’t – want – you – to – see –  the – ball – back – where – it – was – and – scare – yourself – thinking – the – ghosts – brought – it – back – up – here – and – not – me!” I said, emphasizing each word.  I could hear her laughing even harder.

“I remembered you telling me what happened,” she said, still laughing. “I just forgot.”

Thank God she was laughing! I think she’s a lot jumpier about our “guests”  than she’s been letting on.

What’s that sound? Television shenanigans September 8, 2008

Prince typically goes outside to relieve himself once a night and last night was no exception. Cheryl took him downstairs through the basement, and a few minutes later Cheryl came back up. By the look on her face, I could tell something was bothering her.

I asked her if anything was wrong and she told me that while she was done in the basement she heard what she could only describe as a “dripping” sound. She was worried that there might be a leak somewhere so she tried to figure out where it was coming from, but she wasn’t able to do so.

A little later Prince let me know he needed to go potty again, and so I let him out by going downstairs through the basement. While I was waiting for him, I heard it. A dripping sound. It was loud. I left the door open and walked towards the sound I heard. I heard it again, this time a little to my right.

I walked over there. By this time I saw Prince had come back in and had run back upstairs. I walked over to where I heard the sound and stood there listening.

Drip. This time it came from a completely different area! I started to walk to that spot when I heard it from behind me again. Was this a game that I was an unwitting player in? After several minutes of “chasing” the sound, I gave up and went upstairs. Of course, now Cheryl was concerned wanting to know why I was in the basement for so long.

Cheryl and I have a routine we typically follow every night. When I’m done with everything I want or need to do on my computer, I come out to the family room where Cheryl is usually waiting for me. We talk and watch television for a bit, Cheryl falls asleep on the sofa, we shut everything off, close the windows, check the alarm system to make sure everything is locked up, and go to bed.

We have cable television, and a surround sound system built into our home. So it’s pushing this button and that one on the remotes to turn everything off. Well, last night Cheryl turned off the sound to the television, and I grabbed the other remote to turn the television and cable system off. Since Cheryl turned the sound off, I saw and heard the television and cable system turn off. Before I could put the remote back on the table, all three were back on!

Okay, now what happened was I was putting the remote back on the table and looking at the table when I heard the news on the television. I looked up and saw everything on. I told Cheryl what just happened and she asked if I touched the remote for the sound. When I told her I hadn’t she just giggled.

As soon as I finished writing this, I heard the alarm chime. A quick look confirmed what I already knew, there wasn’t a reason for it to chime.

I called April, a friend of mine, who is also a gifted psychic and psychometrist. A psychcometrist is someone who can read energy from objects, and what is a house if it’s not a large object? April used to help me a lot when I was actively doing investigations, so I knew her to be reliable and credible.

I was going to ask her if she and Wyatt would like to come over dinner. I was thinking that once they were here, she, or he, might sense what’s going on and give us their impressions. I wasn’t going to mention that there was anything “ghostly” to give impressions about. She doesn’t know I’m keeping a blog of the activity in our home either.

Unfortunately, April has been having problems with her back, and doctors haven’t been able to determine why. I’ll have to call someone else now. The problem is that a lot of people I’ve met who think that they’re psychic, really aren’t.

Last night Cheryl came out to the family room looking scared. She asked me if I was just by the walk-in closet off the master bath. When I told her “no,” she told me that she was looking for something in the closet when she heard “breathing” next to her. When she looked she didn’t see anyone so she rushed out to see where I was.

I asked her to show me where she was standing, and we walked back to the closet. She was pretty close to the door, which would explain why she thought whoever was there simply walked away. She told me that when she walked out of the bathroom she saw Prince sitting on the side of the bed farthest from the bathroom staring at the wall towards the ceiling. What bothered her was that he wasn’t growling; he just sat there and stared.

I did notice as we were going back to the bathroom that I felt a presence at the top of the stairs. “Whoa,” I said. Cheryl knows when I stop and say that, I’m feeling an entity. I walked around and it seemed to be just in that area.

“Cheryl, look at this,” I said to her holding out my arm. She could see the goose bumps up and down my arm. “It’s feeding off of my energy.” The feeling I got from it was it was just as curious as we were as to what was going on.

Later as we were getting ready for bed, I felt the same energy by the stairs. I went down the stairs to close the door to the basement, and the energy became stronger. Just like Prince, I’m finding myself more and more reluctant to go down to the basement. “This is becoming ridiculous,” I told myself. I found myself feeling like the people I used to want to help when I was a professional paranormal investigator, not feeling comfortable in my own home.

Last night as we were falling asleep Cheryl suddenly said, “Do you hear the man and woman talking?” I listened but couldn’t hear a thing. Of course, because of my misspent youth, my hearing isn’t what it should be.

“What do you hear?” I asked her.

“It’s a man and a woman talking.”

“Do you hear what they’re saying?” I asked her.

“No, but the tone is one of a casual conversation.”

It reminded of how Cheryl often commented that when she was in the dunny, she would hear a man and a boy talking. At first she told me that she thought she was hearing the television. But whatever I was watching at the time didn’t have a man and a boy talking. Other times she thought she was hearing the stereo, only to find out that it wasn’t on.

One afternoon, in the middle of the day I heard a man and a boy having a “father – son talk.” I thought it was the television, then I realized that I didn’t have the television on in the family room. My next thought was I must be hearing the stereo. I remembered I didn’t have it on either. The conversation went on for as long as I was in there. When I walked out, sure enough, the television and the stereo were both off.

Last night, when Cheryl said the “conversation” stopped, I told her that I would put out a digital recorder and see if I can record anything.
