Cheryl has a portrait of herself that she keeps in a closet for safekeeping. The last time she took it out would have been about three weeks ago when she wanted to get something out of there.
She pulled it out again today and got the shock of her life. It looks as though someone spit on it!
I was in the family room when I heard, “Sweetheart, please come here! I want you to look at this!” Because of the tone of her voice I came to see what she wanted as quick as I could (I’m very protective of her). “Look at my portrait!”
When I saw what she was looking at, I asked her where she had it in the closet and how she had it. I looked carefully to see if there were any leaks in the closet. Even if there were, there was no way it would have ended up on the front of the portrait the way she had it.
“Wow, it almost looks like spittle,” I said. Whatever it was started at the top of portrait glass and dripped down. It’s a dull white in color, and splattered. It went from the top of the glass and almost reached the bottom, with two more splatters on the left. There’s no way, as important as this portrait of her is that she would have missed it.
“That’s what I thought too!” Cheryl replied.
“When you took it out before and put it back, did you notice that the glass was wet?”
“No! The first time I saw this was now, when I pulled it out to take a picture of it! I wondered if something spilled inside the closet so I looked around myself. Then I started thinking about the last time I pulled it out, and I know this wasn’t on there. That’s when I called you.
What happened to the picture? We don’t know. All I can tell you is that it appears as though the last time she pulled it out of the closet and set it down, and put it away again, someone intentionally spit on it, not once, but at least twice while she wasn’t looking. As Cheryl said, “If it wasn’t one of our guests who did this, I have no idea how else it could have happened.
