One thing about Cheryl – when something like what happened last night occurs, she really wants to understand what’s going on! When I was writing last night’s post after apparently crossing the boy over, I mentioned that I kept hearing things but wrote it as Henry prowling around. I’m pretty sure most of what I hear was exactly that.

When I got back to bed, Cheryl had the digital recorder in her hand, doing her own evp experiment. She told me she heard someone waking from the bedroom into the master bathroom, so she decided to see if she could catch her own evps, but she didn’t know how to stop the recorder. I turned it off for her and we listened to what she recorded.

She did a great job asking questions along the lines she heard me just ask. At one point she asked, “What’s your name?” We both heard a young woman respond, but we couldn’t agree on the first name. I thought it sounded like, “Suzy,” and she thought it sounded like, “Amy.” We both agreed that we heard, “Smith” as the last name.

As we were listening she started smelling a new fragrance. She said it was “clean” like the last one, but this time is was “muskier,” more “woodsy.” If it weren’t dark she would have seen that the look on my face was total confusion. “Muskier,” and “woodsier;” what the hell does that mean? I didn’t have to wonder for long because suddenly I got a good whiff of it myself, even though my nose was still stuffy (if I opened my mouth and breathed in, I could smell it).

We heard other things, including a voice that sounded hollow and metallic. That voice was loudest, but hardly clear in what it was saying. Cheryl kept asking me things about EVPs, and what I thought was going on long after I was ready to go to sleep! LOL

I thought Cheryl did a great job, and I told her so, but one of the things Cheryl did ask which I told her wasn’t a good idea was, “What do you want me to do for you?” She asked this twice. Cheryl was trying to be helpful, as she’s a beautiful soul always wanting to help someone in need. But this is a horrible question to ask!

The spirits that we were trying to communicate with haven’t crossed over yet, so there’s no telling what kind of response you’re going to get asking this question. I know of one woman who asked this question in her apartment, and the answer she got was, “Die.” In Cheryl’s case, it was, “F___ somebody.” Apparently this spirit is a voyeur or extremely frustrated at not having had sex for all these years.

Whenever I do evp work, it’s only to collect evidence that a conscious spirit is present – that’s all. I’m not trying to develop a friendship with it. Last year I was in Pennsylvania to appear on a television show, and to do a couple of seminars with Natalie Smith-Blakeslee, a very gifted medium herself. During one of the seminars I asked a man if he knew who a certain person was. He was excited to tell me that he did, and wanted to know as much as he could about this person (a young girl).

After the seminar was over, I found out from Natalie that she not only knew this man, but she knew about the girl I asked about. It turns out that this guy was investigating a bridge nearby that was supposedly haunted. He even asked Natalie to help him with the investigation, which she did, but told him it was a dangerous place to be spending a lot of time at.

It turns out that he not only spent a lot of time there, but that he literally became obsessed with this girl he first heard from through an evp. He was hanging around after the seminar, so Natalie asked me to talk to him and try to talk him out of what he was doing. When I did sit down with him it became apparent apparent to me that he was not only consumed by this ghost, he was in love. Yes, I’m serious.

Now, I didn’t know him before, and I’ve never seen him since, so I don’t know what his mental stability (or lack thereof) was like. Natalie and her husband had known him for years before, and assure me that he seemed fine before he started investigating the bridge.

My point is, whenever someone is doing something like evp experiments, or any sort of investigation, I believe that they should keep their distance. You’re trying to understand what’s going on, not develop new friendships.
