I’ve been here in the Teton room pretty much since Cheryl and I got home this afternoon. At one point I picked up the messages on our phone and I was returning a phone call. While I was on the phone Cheryl came to the door, looked in and walked away. When I got off of the phone I went to see what she wanted.

“I just wanted to tell you that a little while ago I thought I was following you, but it wasn’t you!”

“What do you mean,” I asked her.

“I thought I saw you go into the hallway and I followed you!”

“How far did you go?”

“Well, I thought I saw you come from here,” Cheryl said, pointing to the entryway by the bannister, “and then ‘you’ turned and walked down the hallway.” She then started walking into the hallway leading to the bedroom, “I followed you because I wanted to give you a hug.

I walked to here and felt a blast of cold air right here.” She stop in the area between the office and master bedroom. “I came into the bedroom and looked around but you weren’t here. That’s when I found you in the Teton room.”

This actually happened several hours ago today, but we had unexpected company so I was pulled away. What did Cheryl see? I’m not sure, but there is a possibility that she saw a “recording” of me walking from the Teton room towards the master bedroom.

Cheryl has a portrait of herself that she keeps in a closet for safekeeping. The last time she took it out would have been about three weeks ago when she wanted to get something out of there.

She pulled it out again today and got the shock of her life. It looks as though someone spit on it!

I was in the family room when I heard, “Sweetheart, please come here! I want you to look at this!” Because of the tone of her voice I came to see what she wanted as quick as I could (I’m very protective of her). “Look at my portrait!”

When I saw what she was looking at, I asked her where she had it in the closet and how she had it. I looked carefully to see if there were any leaks in the closet. Even if there were, there was no way it would have ended up on the front of the portrait the way she had it.

“Wow, it almost looks like spittle,” I said. Whatever it was started at the top of portrait glass and dripped down. It’s a dull white in color, and splattered. It went from the top of the glass and almost reached the bottom, with two more splatters on the left. There’s no way, as important as this portrait of her is that she would have missed it.

“That’s what I thought too!” Cheryl replied.

“When you took it out before and put it back, did you notice that the glass was wet?”

“No! The first time I saw this was now, when I pulled it out to take a picture of it! I wondered if something spilled inside the closet so I looked around myself. Then I started thinking about the last time I pulled it out, and I know this wasn’t on there. That’s when I called you.

What happened to the picture? We don’t know. All I can tell you is that it appears as though the last time she pulled it out of the closet and set it down, and put it away again, someone intentionally spit on it, not once, but at least twice while she wasn’t looking. As Cheryl said, “If it wasn’t one of our guests who did this, I have no idea how else it could have happened.

One thing about Cheryl – when something like what happened last night occurs, she really wants to understand what’s going on! When I was writing last night’s post after apparently crossing the boy over, I mentioned that I kept hearing things but wrote it as Henry prowling around. I’m pretty sure most of what I hear was exactly that.

When I got back to bed, Cheryl had the digital recorder in her hand, doing her own evp experiment. She told me she heard someone waking from the bedroom into the master bathroom, so she decided to see if she could catch her own evps, but she didn’t know how to stop the recorder. I turned it off for her and we listened to what she recorded.

She did a great job asking questions along the lines she heard me just ask. At one point she asked, “What’s your name?” We both heard a young woman respond, but we couldn’t agree on the first name. I thought it sounded like, “Suzy,” and she thought it sounded like, “Amy.” We both agreed that we heard, “Smith” as the last name.

As we were listening she started smelling a new fragrance. She said it was “clean” like the last one, but this time is was “muskier,” more “woodsy.” If it weren’t dark she would have seen that the look on my face was total confusion. “Muskier,” and “woodsier;” what the hell does that mean? I didn’t have to wonder for long because suddenly I got a good whiff of it myself, even though my nose was still stuffy (if I opened my mouth and breathed in, I could smell it).

We heard other things, including a voice that sounded hollow and metallic. That voice was loudest, but hardly clear in what it was saying. Cheryl kept asking me things about EVPs, and what I thought was going on long after I was ready to go to sleep! LOL

I thought Cheryl did a great job, and I told her so, but one of the things Cheryl did ask which I told her wasn’t a good idea was, “What do you want me to do for you?” She asked this twice. Cheryl was trying to be helpful, as she’s a beautiful soul always wanting to help someone in need. But this is a horrible question to ask!

The spirits that we were trying to communicate with haven’t crossed over yet, so there’s no telling what kind of response you’re going to get asking this question. I know of one woman who asked this question in her apartment, and the answer she got was, “Die.” In Cheryl’s case, it was, “F___ somebody.” Apparently this spirit is a voyeur or extremely frustrated at not having had sex for all these years.

Whenever I do evp work, it’s only to collect evidence that a conscious spirit is present – that’s all. I’m not trying to develop a friendship with it. Last year I was in Pennsylvania to appear on a television show, and to do a couple of seminars with Natalie Smith-Blakeslee, a very gifted medium herself. During one of the seminars I asked a man if he knew who a certain person was. He was excited to tell me that he did, and wanted to know as much as he could about this person (a young girl).

After the seminar was over, I found out from Natalie that she not only knew this man, but she knew about the girl I asked about. It turns out that this guy was investigating a bridge nearby that was supposedly haunted. He even asked Natalie to help him with the investigation, which she did, but told him it was a dangerous place to be spending a lot of time at.

It turns out that he not only spent a lot of time there, but that he literally became obsessed with this girl he first heard from through an evp. He was hanging around after the seminar, so Natalie asked me to talk to him and try to talk him out of what he was doing. When I did sit down with him it became apparent apparent to me that he was not only consumed by this ghost, he was in love. Yes, I’m serious.

Now, I didn’t know him before, and I’ve never seen him since, so I don’t know what his mental stability (or lack thereof) was like. Natalie and her husband had known him for years before, and assure me that he seemed fine before he started investigating the bridge.

My point is, whenever someone is doing something like evp experiments, or any sort of investigation, I believe that they should keep their distance. You’re trying to understand what’s going on, not develop new friendships.

Cheryl and I might have crossed over the little culprit who’s been responsible for some of the activity lately!

Cheryl has been really tired lately, and tonight she fell asleep really early on the floor in the family room while I watched television. At 10:30 I woke her up (actually I had turned the television off and fell asleep myself) and we got ready for bed. While we were laying in bed she asked me if I closed the door to the Teton room (my office) so Henry, her brother’s family cat who’s visiting us doesn’t get in here while we’re sleeping.

I got up to check (I hadn’t closed the door so I closed it) and went back to bed. When I got back in bed Cheryl asked me if I heard the “beeping sound.” She said she heard 5 distinct beeps like I was pressing the buttons on the microwave.. I hadn’t heard it and told her so. While we were talking about what she heard, she grabbed one my hands, and then the other. “Wow, I just felt a cold touch on my neck. There it is again.”

I asked her what it felt like and she said it felt like she was being touched by three cold fingers. She said the cold felt like the cold of an ice pack on her neck. We started talking about that when she asked me if I was smelling what she was smelling. My nose was (is) stuffed up, and I really couldn’t smell it, but occasionally while I was talking to her I could almost taste what she was talking about. She kept describing it as a “clean, fresh, flowery smell.” She kept smelling it off and on, asking me if I smelled it.

I decided now was the time to try to figure out what was going on, so I went out to the bar in the kitchen and got my digital recorder. When I got back to bed I told Cheryl to tell me the next time she smelled the fragrance she was talking about. “I smell it,” she said, so I started recording, noting the date and time, and that Cheryl and I were in bed.

I then started asking questions like, “Who are you?” “What’s your name?” “What do you want?”

I then explained that I was holding a device that would allow us to hear whomever was there apparently wanting to communicate with us. When we played back the recording, we both heard something like, “What are you …?” We couldn’t make out the last part.

When it came to the part where I was explaining we would be able to hear what they wanted to say was almost drowned out by a very breathy voice. “My mother … from cholera.” We couldn’t hear part of it, but it made sense the word we couldn’t hear was “died.” Then we heard, very clearly, “I want my mommy.” The voice was so breathy, we couldn’t make out an age, but it did sound male.

“That’s where I lost my …” the next part could have been mommy, but in all honesty, it could have been “laundry” as well. We decided to go with “mommy.” I turned the recorder off.

“I think your mommy’s here to get you now.” I suddenly felt the energy of a presence to my left. The energy was strong.

“I smell that scent again, really strong!” Cheryl said.

“Your mommy’s here to get you,” I continued. “You should be able to see her now.” Suddenly I felt the energy rush to my right, towards Cheryl. She told me later that the hairs on her arm stood up. “I think he found his mommy,” I said to Cheryl. “Tell me if you smell that scent again.”

We waited for several minutes, and when Cheryl didn’t smell it, it confirmed to us that whoever it was had crossed over. “I’m going to blog this,” I told her, and got out of bed. While I’ve been writing this I’ve been hearing sounds coming from the family room, but they are probably Henry as he prowls the house.

Well, I’m off to bed! Good night!

I thought that this comment is so great, I wanted to answer it in a post.

I was going to ask you what you thought about orbs.  I used to walk around my house and snap pictures all the time, after my first ghostly encounter, to see if I could catch an orb especially if I got a   freezing cold   sensation. I got a new digital camera last July and noticed that it doesn’t pick up the orbs like the other camera I had.  I wonder if it had to do with the mega pixels or something like that.  I still snap a picture when something out of the ordinary happens.  When my husband heard my daughter’s radio come on and he heard  a young voice singing along I snapped several pictures and caught one orb in only one of the pictures and it was right after he heard the radio and the voice. The orb always seems to appear in the picture after or at the time of the  experience.

My husband, kids and I like to watch TAPS, Paranormal state, Ghost Hunters International and another that I can’t remember the name of… sometimes we wonder  if they are making stuff up . We also talked about the 3 am thing and the turning out the lights …we thought it was silly, because our ghost or ghosts like to make themselves know anytime of the day not just at night in the dark. I’ve never used any equipment so I don’t know anything about it…and I’m not psychic.

Cheryl and I have both seen orbs of light floating around our home, with our naked eyes. We have taken pictures in which we had numerous orbs in one, and none in the next, or vice versa. When I first started doing investigations I was taught that orbs were “ghosts.” And I believed it. After so many years of doing investigations, I came to the conclusion that while they were some sort of energy, I started wondering who came to the conclusion that they were spirits, and why? As far as I’m concerned, the jury’s still out on that one.

A few years ago I was in the Whaley House, in San Diego, California, and I felt a “presence” around me so I took two pictures with my Sony Digital (it was top of the line for about 5 minutes after I bought it!). When I looked at them later I realized that in the first one there was nothing there, but in the second one you could see a full figure of a man who appears to be Thomas Whaley from behind! Even my very skeptical brother said it’s the “best” picture he had ever seen.

Still, I tell everyone that it’s not a picture of a “ghost.” If it was, I would have seen it when I took the picture, which I didn’t. It’s an image place on the memory stic by a “disembodied consciousness (which is what I believe an apparition is).” In other words, I believe it’s a picture of a “thought” or memory. I’d post it but even the staff of the Whaley House hasn’t seen it yet.

As far as some of the shows you mentioned, well, there is a website devoted to debunking them. I don’t understand why they turn off the lights to do their investigations, but a lot of so-called “ghost hunting teams” do the same thing – essentially following their example. If I did turn the lights off, it would have been because the people who claimed to be experiencing paranormal activity said it happened when the lights were off.

But why would anyone do an investigation at night with the lights off if they were told that the “ghost” showed up at one in the afternoon? I’m sorry, I’ll get off of my soapbox.

One more thing, I’ve done investigations at the Stanley Hotel on several occasions, as well. I’ve seen and experienced things there, with much “harder” evidence than the team that has done it live on television.  On one occasion, an apparition was experienced by not only my team, but several hotel guests as well. Still, you’ll never hear about it from the hotel’s staff, and I couldn’t tell you why.

In fact, Christy, if you read this, I’d love it if you’d comment on our investigations of the Stanley together and what you saw, and experienced. Or send me an e-mail, and I’ll put it up as a post.

Sorry about the rambling … I’m up way past my bedtime. I’ll share my thoughts on equipment, and being psychic in another post.

I was just out in the family room (Cheryl and I are getting ready to go out to dinner) when I saw the remote for the sound system. I asked Cheryl where she found it and she said it was on the coffee table, under one of my books.

“Weird, huh?” she asked.

“Yeah,” was all I could say.

Cheryl hears a woman humming. July 10, 2009

This, again, just happened a few minutes ago. I’m here in the Teton, and was when this happened. I was trying to make a telephone call when Cheryl walked up and asked a question. Since I was desperately trying to connect with the guy I was calling, I didn’t respond to her (in part because I didn’t hear the question).

Cheryl stood there waiting for me to get off of the phone, and asked me when I finally hung up (I never did reach him) if I heard the woman humming. I told her I hadn’t and she said that it wasn’t a high pitched humming, but more of a “medium” range. She then imitated for me what she heard. Sounded like humming to me!

I haven’t started my investigation yet, primarily because I’ve so busy. I did put fresh batteries into one of my digital recorders today though. I’m thinking of starting with EVP experiments first. I do have a “Dr. Gauss (yes, it says Dr. Gauss on it, it’s that old),” as well as dowsing rods and a K II. I used to have other equipment, but I sold it tall a couple of years ago when I thought I’d do investigations primarily as a psychic type. I used to wonder why any psychic would show up with any equipment other than their brain, although I’ve seen some do it!

So, I may start my investigation tonight (after this latest incident) or tomorrow. Just for the record, I don’t wait for dusk and turn off all of the lights during an investigation. I think that’s just silly. Nor do I wait until 3 am, thinking paranormal activity is as it’s “highest peak” at that time. I don’t know that to be true, because usually what I’m typically doing at 3 am is sleeping.

I also won’t be taking pictures thinking that orbs are evidence. During the 20+ years I was doing  paranormal investigations, I never did come to any conclusions as to what orbs are. I didn’t consider them to be “ghosts” though, and was often dunned by those who insisted that’s what they were. By the way, many of those same people are now saying that orbs are not necessarily ghosts as well.

I do have some photos that are very hard to dismiss though! Although one guy, whose name I won’t mention here though you might know it if I did, blew all credibility with me when I showed him a photo with what is clearly a face on it, and he said he thought it was a “water spot.”

Having gotten that off my chest (though I’m not bitter I tell you! : – ) ) I will tell you what, if anything I do get. Will I be offering whatever I get as “evidence” of ghosts, or that my home really is haunted? Nope, again, I’m not trying to convince you of anything at all. All I’ll be doing is eliminating, as much as I can, the “logical” explanations for what might be happening, fascinated by what’s left over, and may be paranormal in nature.

Melanie sent a comment about a similar incident that happened in her home. I posted a reply, and this is what I said.

Wow! Like the old adage says, “Misery loves company!”

After I wrote the post, I turned this computer off and went back into the family room. Cheryl asked me if I found the remote yet. I hadn’t, and told her so. What she told me was interesting.

After we ate dinner, as I said, I found the television remote on the coffee table and put it back on the end table since I was using her computer while I was sitting on the recliner. Again, I only put the television remote on the end table since I didn’t know where the remote for the sound system was. Keep in mind, I looked around for about an hour before I asked Cheryl if she put the sound clicker somewhere. At some point during that time Cheryl sat on the recliner and got on her computer. While she was on it, she moved something on the end table and heard something else fall. She immediately thought the remotes must have fallen. She looked and saw both of the remotes on the end table! That’s when she saw the two books I had on the table had fallen.

That’s why when I asked her if she put the remote for the sound system somewhere she thought they were together on the end table! In fact, when I asked her where it was she walked over to the end table and asked, “Where did it go?” As of this time (it’s 9 am the next morning), we still have no idea where that particular remote is.

To sum it up, while I was on the recliner after dinner, both remotes, which were on the end table were gone. I found one of the remotes and put it back on the end table. I looked for the other on and off for an hour, during which time Cheryl sat on the recliner and saw both.

When I finally asked her if she put the remote for the sound system somewhere, she told me it was with the tv clicker. When I told her it wasn’t there, she even went to the end table to get it for me. By that time it was gone again, and we still have no idea where it is!

Okay, this is happening as I write this. I was sitting on the recliner earlier and I had the news on (I don’t really watch it but Cheryl does). Anyway, I had both the satellite television clicker and the clicker that controls the sound next to me on an end table. I was actually using both to mute the t.v.

Cheryl had dinner made, and after we ate I went back to the recliner. First of all, the satellite television clicker wasn’t on the end table, it was now on the coffee table. “No big deal,” I thought, “Cheryl must have moved it. But where did she put the other clicker?” I looked off and on for an hour before I finally asked her if she moved it.

“It’s right there next to the tv clicker,” she said. Yes, the t.v. clicker was on the end table, but I moved it back there.

“It’s not there,” I told her.

“Are you sure?” Cheryl asked and walked over to the end table. She then looked around, while I looked (again) under and around the end table. As of this moment, neither of us know where it is.

The bedroom door … a white mist … the activity seems to be increasing. July 5, 2009

This just happened a few minutes ago. Cheryl and I were both in the family room – I was laying on the floor watching television, and Cheryl was on the recliner on her computer. I heard a door close and thought, “Cheryl must be getting ready for bed.” If she walked into the bedroom and the window was still open, the wind would have shut it behind her.

“Was the bedroom door open?” I heard Cheryl ask. I looked up and was startled to her still in the recliner!

“I assumed it was you! I thought that you must have gone back into the bedroom to get ready for bed.”  We both talked about hearing the door close, so I got up and checked the bedroom door. When I walked out of the family room I saw Prince standing next to the living room looking at me. Even that plays into what was to happen next.

When I walked back out Prince was now in the dining room (which is next to the living room) laying down in front of the dining room table. I confirmed with Cheryl that she had indeed closed the bedroom door earlier. Cheryl keeps the bedroom doors closed in order to “minimize” where Prince and Albert go to in the house. So in order for the door to close, it would have had to be opened first. I opened the door and looked around the bedroom. I felt a presence as I opened the door. I closed the door and walked back out into the family room, with the “guest” following me.

“Earlier, while you were in the bathroom,” Cheryl said, “I was on my computer and I saw something, so I looked up and saw a white mist coming from the corner (by where the television and stereo system is) and when I stopped and looked at it straight on, it stopped right there (pointing at the end of the coffee table three feet away). ”Where’s Prince?” she wanted to know.

“He’s right here in the dining room,” I said looking at Prince. He was laying down on the floor looking up at me.

“What’s he doing there, and why is he laying like that?” Cheryl asked.

“I don’t know,” I said wondering the same thing. The way Prince was laying there and looking at us … it’s hard to describe, except to say that he doesn’t usually lay and look that way. It was almost as though he were afraid of something, or someone.

I came into the Teton to turn my computer back on and right about this when I heard Cheryl talking to Prince. I could hear Cheryl telling Prince she loved him, and then I heard her get out of the recliner and walk this way. “Let’s go into the Teton room so we can be with daddy,” I heard her say.

“Cheryl?”

She walked into my office. “I was talking to Prince and he kept looking towards the dining room. He kept looking up and away from me, so I thought you were standing behind me. I thought you were going to say something. I looked and you weren’t there. That’s when I decided to come here to be with you and bring Prince with me. Do you think that this has to do with you talking to April today?”

“Well, I was afraid that doing an investigation, even just considering starting one, might raise the level of activity.”

While I’ve been writing this Cheryl complained about feeling a “breeze” of cold air across the top of her knees, and I’ve had goose bumps (a sign that a spirit is feeding off of my energy). I even saw a flash of white out of the corner of my right eye, something that’s happened only once before a couple of nights ago. If I had to describe it, I would say it was as though someone walked right next to me wearing something white. There’s a desk lamp that’s lit to the left of me, and a greenish night light in the wall across from the French doors.

The first time it happened it wrote it off. No other lights are on that I can see. I asked Cheryl if she saw it too but she said her eyes were closed when it happened.

Cheryl’s still here with me, along with Prince. Our cat, Albert, is still in the family room. We have noticed, and Cheryl just brought this up, that Albert has started sleeping in bed with us over the past three weeks. “I’ve been wondering if that’s why she’s been coming to sleep with us,” Cheryl said. “I wondered if she’s being bugged.”

That thought never occurred to me. But it does make sense.
